Charles Kamathi

Charles Waweru Kamathi ( born May 18, 1978 in Mathari in Nyeri ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner.

Sports career

His best performance in the 10,000 - meter race presented Kamathi 1999 in Brussels. It was his first race in Europe at all.

He celebrated his biggest success at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001, when he was in 27:53,25 min before the Ethiopians Assefa Mezgebu and Haile Gebrselassie won. He ended the winning streak of Gebrselassie, who had but paused before this race for almost a year because of Achilles tendon complaints.

At the 2003 World Championships Kamathi was seventh. In 2004 he won at the African Championships, but finished at the Olympic Games only 13th place a year later he was at the 2005 World Championships twelfth.

At the World Cross Country Championships Kamathi won the 2001 bronze on the long haul. With the team he won the 2001 and 2002 and in 2004 and 2005 runner-up.

2002, Kamathi part in the world championships in the half marathon. He won with the team and was in the individual ranking ninth. Making its debut at the marathon distance, he was fourth at the 2007 Milan City Marathon in 2:11:25 h in 2008, he came third at the Rotterdam Marathon in 2:07:33 h and at the Berlin Marathon in 2:07:48 hours.

In 2010 he was second in the Milan City Marathon and won the Eindhoven Marathon.

Kamathi is 1,65 m tall and weighs 51 kg. He is coached by Gabriele Rosa and supervised by manager Federico Rosa.
