Charles Louis " Charlie / Charley " Trippi ( born December 14, 1922 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American former American football player and coach. He played quarterback and halfback in the National Football League ( NFL) for the Chicago Cardinals.

Playing career

College career

Charley Trippi studied from 1942 at the University of Georgia and played for the Georgia Bulldogs College Football fullback. After the season, his team played in the Rose Bowl. Since the starter of his team, Frank Sinkwich injured, and was only partially operational, the inexperienced Trippi has been increasingly used and led his team to a 9-0 victory. Trippi was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game. After this first year, Trippi had to interrupt his studies because of his military service in the United States Army Air Forces and was able to resume this only in 1945. In the game 1945 and as team captain in 1946 he led his team to wins in each of Bowl games. In 1946, the Bulldogs won the league championship. Professional career

Charles Trippi was drafted back in 1945 by the Chicago Cardinals in the first round in the first place. Charles Trippi first wife died in 1971. He is married for the second time and has three children. Trippi lives with his family in Athens, Georgia.

Honors

Trippi played in two Pro Bowls, the final game of the best players of the season. He was elected three times to the All- Pro. He is a member of the NFL 1940s All- Decade Team, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
