China Forbes

China Forbes ( born April 29, 1970 in Cambridge ( Massachusetts)) is an American singer- songwriter who was known as the lead singer of the group Pink Martini.

Career

Forbes attended Phillips Exeter Academy and then studied acting at Harvard University, where she played regularly with Thomas Lauderdale, who studied classical piano there.

At Harvard, Forbes was awarded the Jonathan Levy Award. She completed her studies in 1992 and worked for several years as an actress in Off-Broadway theaters in New York. Her musical career began with the founding of his own band and recording her solo album Love Handle in 1995. Late 1990s, she sang the title song Ordinary Girl for the TV series Clueless and in 2003 the song Que Sera, Sera for the film In the Cut.

Thomas Lauderdale, who lived in Portland (Oregon ) now, Forbes asked to join his newly formed group Pink Martini in 1994. China Forbes took over the role of lead singer and three years later moved to Portland, to devote himself entirely to the work with Pink Martini, which is referred to by the New York Times as a retro - lounge group ( retro -lounge group).

In 2008, Forbes released her second solo album '78 at Lauderdale label Heinz Records. In the same year she sang a duet with Michael Feinstein of the song How Will It Last? on the album The Sinatra Project. With Georges Moustaki sang two duets for the album Solitaire in French. Forbes occurs on television and sang among others on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Due to a vocal cord surgery China Forbes paused from mid-2011 on for about a year. This time, later described in an interview as one of the most difficult periods of their lives; they have seldom felt so isolated. After her return, she reduced her performances with Pink Martini and shares the role of lead singer with Susan Storm Large, from which they had been represented during her illness break.

Family

Forbes is married, in 2009, her son was born.

China Forbes is a cousin of the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
