Chocaya Canton

The Canton Chocaya is a municipality in the department of Potosí in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

The Canton ( bolivian: cantón ) Chocaya is one of nine cantons in the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Atocha in the province Sur chichas. It is bordered on the north by the province of Nor chichas, in the northwest of the province Antonio Quijarro, on the west by the province of Nor Lípez, in the south and south-east to the Canton Tacmari, and on the east by the Canton of Atocha.

Central place of the canton is Chocaya (more precisely: Gran Chocaya ) with 79 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) in the central part of the county, the larger settlements are the two mining settlements Siete Suyos with 1,117 inhabitants and Animas with 1,025 residents northeast of Gran Chocaya. Geography

The Canton Chocaya located on the Bolivian Altiplano in the northern foothills of the Andean mountain range of the Cordillera de Lípez, about 90 kilometers southeast of the salt lake Salar de Uyuni. The region's climate is arid and has a clear diurnal climate in which the average daily temperature fluctuations are stronger than the temperature variations during the year.
