Antonio Quijarro is a province in the central part of the department of Potosí in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province Antonio Quijarro is one of sixteen provinces in the Potosí Department. It extends between 19 ° 21 'and 20 ° 59' south latitude and between 65 ° 46 ' and 67 ° 15 ' west longitude. It is bordered on the north by the department of Oruro, on the west by the province of Nor Lípez, on the southeast by the province chichas Sur, on the east by the province and the province of Nor chichas José María Linares, and in the north- east by the province Tomás Frías.

The province extends over 180 km in east-west direction and 225 km in north-south direction.

Population

The most important idiom of the province with 87 percent Spanish, 74 percent of the population speak Quechua. The provincial capital is Uyuni with 10,191 inhabitants.

53 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 85 percent have no sanitary facilities. 50 percent of workers are employed in agriculture, 8 percent in mining, 5 percent in industry, 37 percent in services. 86 percent of the population is Catholic, 11 percent Protestant.
