Chokurdakh
Tschokurdach (Russian Чокурдах; Yakut Чокуурдаах ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 2367 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The place is situated about 1250 km as the crow northeast of the capital city of Yakutsk in the Republic Jana Indigirka lowlands on the left bank of the Indigirka below the confluence of the Allaicha.
Tschokurdach is the administrative center of Ulus Allaichowski and seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Tschokurdach.
History
The town was a river port founded by the incipient development of the Northern Sea Route in 1936 as the administrative seat for the 1931 created Ulus ( Rajon ) as well. Since 1981 Tschokurdach has the status of an urban-type settlement.

Traffic
Tschokurdach is not connected to the fixed line network. It is accessible via a winter road which follows the Indigirka from Ust- Nera on Chonuu and Belaya Gora down, mostly on the ice of the river. The river port is one of the most northern Russia; the navigation period is only about three months.
