Chornukhy

Tschornuchy (Ukrainian Чорнухи; Russian Чернухи / Tschernuchi ) is an urban-type settlement in the central Ukrainian Poltava oblast. It is Rajonzentrum of Rajons same and to her also includes the village Bohdaniwka / Богданівка.

History

Tschornuchy was first documented in 1261. There are still traces of old settlement from this period. From the 16th century the place was the property of the Polish nobility family Vishnevsky. 1658 the Cossack Hetman Ivan Wyhowsky was defeated at Tschornuchy in a battle. As of 1803, the community was part of the district Lochwyza, but today it is the center of your own Rajons. In 1972, the house of the parents of the Ukrainian philosopher Skovoroda was reconstructed and there set up a historical- ethnographic museum in the town.
