Chris Kelleher

Christopher Kelleher ( born March 23, 1975 in Cambridge, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who played during his active career, among other things for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Krefeld Penguins in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Career

Chris Kelleher was during his time in high school when he played for the St. Sebastian's Arrows, selected the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in the fifth round at position 130 of the Pittsburgh Penguins. After graduating from high school sat Kelleher his career at Boston University, where he studied and for their hockey team, which played Boston University Terriers in the Hockey East. In his third, and last season with the Boston University Terriers, the defender was elected to the Second All-Star Team of the Hockey East. In 1997 and 1998 he was nominated to the NCAA East Second All-American Team. In the season 1998/99 he went to the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League on the ice. The next two seasons spent the defender with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom Kelleher pushed forward to the 2000 /01 season until the finals to the Calder Cup. He was with 25 points scorer in the playoffs the best scorer of the team that failed in six games to the Saint John Flames.

In July 2001, he signed as a free agent contract with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. In the 2001 /02 season Kelleher gave an NHL debut for the Bruins. This was his first and at the same time single game in the National Hockey League during his career. The rest of the playtime spent the Americans in the farm team for the Providence Bruins. The following season he was put in Providence as a regular player. After the Boston Bruins had not extended his contract, Kelleher signed in September 2003 a contract with the Krefeld Penguins of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. In his only season in Krefeld the defender missed the team a place in the playoffs. He then returned to the United States, where Kelleher signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He again played two seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, before the defender for the season 2006/ 07 joined the Elitserien for Linköpings HC. After 25 games and five points, he finished after this season his career.

Internationally

Kelleher represented his native country at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 1995 in Canada. In seven games, he scored a goal and finished with the team to fifth place.
