Clarence Edward " Pug" Manders ( born May 5, 1913 in Milbank, South Dakota, USA; † 20 January 1985 in Des Moines, Iowa) was an US- American football player. He played fullback in the National Football League ( NFL) with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Yanks, and in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ) at the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills.

Playing career

Pug Manders studied 1936-1938 at Drake University. In the Football team of " Drake Bulldogs " he played in the defense as linebacker and fullback on offense. After studying Manders received from Shipwreck Kelly, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, a professional contract. Until 1944, he played fullback on the team from New York City. In the years 1940 and 1941 he failed under coach Jock Sutherland with his team only just outside the catchment in the NFL championship game. After the Dodgers in 1944 the operation of gambling einstellten, Manders joined the Boston Yanks, around a year later to join the New York Yankees who played in the newly formed AAFC. The Yankees were supervised by Ray Flaherty. Manders succeeded with the team to collect in the AAFC - final. Enemies in the game were the Cleveland Browns, who could win with 14:9. After three games with the Buffalo Bills in the 1947 season Manders ended his career. Manders scored in 1941 with 486 yards space thanks to a running game NFL Jahresbestleistung.

Honors

Clarence Manders played three times in the Pro Bowl, the final game of the best players of the season. He was elected three times to the All Pro and is a member of the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.
