Claudio Fasoli

Claudio Fasoli ( born November 29, 1939 in Venice ) is an Italian jazz saxophonist ( tenor and soprano saxophone) and composer of modern jazz.

Life and work

Fasoli was the latest in the Italian jazz scene known in the 1970s through its membership in the Perigeo quartet, in which Franco D' Andrea and Giovanni Tommaso played. After the group disbanded in 1978, he started with his own bands, mostly trios or quartets to work; In 1979, on the Edipan label album hinterland with Enrico Pieranunzi, Bruno Tommaso, Roberto Gatto and Giancarlo Schiaffini and the album Jazz duo, which he recorded with Franco D' Andrea. In 1983 he recorded the album Lido for the Soul Note label; it seemed Kenny Drew, Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Barry Altschul with. In 1986 he had a quartet, which he ran together with Kenny Wheeler (Welcome ); in his groups played among others Stefano Battaglia, Henri Texier, Lee Konitz, Jean -François Jenny -Clark, Aldo Romano, Manfred Schoof, Dave Holland, Palle Danielsson, Tony Oxley, Bill Elgart or Mick Goodrick.

Fasoli also taught since 1978 at the Siena International Jazz Clinics tenor and soprano saxophone and master classes in improvisation. He founded the Saxophone courses at the Civic School of Jazz in Milan and taught jazz at several Italian conservatories and 2003 was artistic director of Padua Jazz Festival.
