Clifford Darling

Sir Clifford Darling GCVO ( born February 6, 1922 on Acklins, † December 27, 2011 in Nassau, New Providence ) was a politician bahamesischer ( Progressive Liberal Party ).

Life

Prior to his political career, Darling worked as a taxi driver. In addition, he was eight years Secretary General of The Bahamas Taxicab Union and 10 years its president. As union president, he campaigned for better treatment of the taxi driver on the part of the hotel. In 1957 he left to block or close the airport in the Bahamas. In January 1958 was followed by a general strike.

From January 1964 to January 1967 Darling sat in the Senate. After that he was from January, 1967 to the House of Assembly. As Minister of Labour and National Insurance he led on 7 October 1974, the National Insurance program. In 1977 he was elected Chairman (Speaker ) of the House of Assembly. In the same year he was defeated by Queen Elizabeth II knighted. On November 13, 1991, he resigned as chairman of the House of Assembly. The current Governor-General of the Bahamas, Henry Milton Taylor had to go before the 1 January 1992 to retire. Darling should be his successor. On January 2, 1992, he laid aside his oath of office. He held this post until January 2, 1995.
