The Col de Mongenèvre (Italian Colle del Monginevro ) is a French passport to 1854 m in the Cozie Alps. Just a few kilometers to the east is today's border with Italy.

It connects the upper Susa Valley ( Piedmont / Turin province ) with Briançon ( Hautes -Alpes) in the region Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Cited in the ancient Matrona Pass presented in Roman times as part of the Via Domitia an important link between the middle Rhône valley and the Po Valley dar. The Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus, according to which he should have been named after a Matrona that there suffered an accident had.
