Colony is the fourth album by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. The album was released in 1999 by Nuclear Blast.
Genesis
Colony is the first album, which has included In Flames in the cast, which existed until 2011. Daniel Svensson took his place behind the drums after Björn Gelotte switched to guitar. Niklas Engelin got out before the recordings in order to devote himself entirely to his own band Gardenian.
The music was written by Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad and arranged by the band. All lyrics were written by Anders Friden. Produced and mixed the album was by Frederik Nordström and the band in Studio Fredman. The album was mastered by Göran Finnberg.
Concept and importance
The album deals with various aspects of religion and spirituality. Both the positive ( Embody the Invisible and The New World) as well as the negative sides ( Zombie, Inc. or Scorn ) are presented.
Music style
Musically, the album is harder and faster aligned as the direct predecessor Whoracle, although similar to the songwriting. Guest musicians Kee Marcello was obliged who contributed the second guitar solo on Coerced Coexistence. For the album have In Flames Behind Space the song, original, newly recorded from the album Lunar Strain.
The Metal Hammer has named Colony album of the month.
Title list
- The title of the song is not unique. On the back of the 1999 release, the official In Flames page and in the printed lyrics, the song title is "The New Word " is displayed. However, reference is made to the published in 2004 re-release as well as on the official Nuclear Blast website on the title " The New World".
Republication
Published in 2004, Nuclear Blast album as so-called " deluxe edition" new. In addition to two bonus songs that were previously only available on the Japanese version of the album, there's the video for Ordinary Story, screen saver, picture gallery, wallpaper and a Winamp skin.
