Corpa (La Paz)

Corpa is a village in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

Corpa is the central place of the Canton Villa Asunción de Machaca and most populous city in the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Jesús de Machaca in the province Ingavi. Corpa lies at an altitude of 3873 m fifteen kilometers south of Lake Titicaca on the western edge of the river plain of the Río Desaguadero, halfway between the village of Jesús de Machaca and Desaguadero. Northeast of Jesús runs an elongated ridge that rises to a height of 4,826 m.

Geography

Corpa lies between the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Oriental to the west and to the east of the Cordillera Central in the Andean dry climate of the Altiplano with an average annual rainfall of about 600 mm (see climate chart Comanche ). The region has a pronounced diurnal climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day be more pronounced than during all seasons.

Corpa lies at a distance of 124 kilometers of road south-west of La Paz, the capital of the department.

From La Paz the paved highway Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto, from there the Ruta 19 a further 23 kilometers to the southwest to Viacha. Here branches off the unpaved Ruta 43 in a southwesterly direction from, from which a road branches off to 43 kilometers in a westerly direction, and after another 34 kilometers above Jesús de Machaca reach the village corpa.
