The Costa Rican Colon (plural: Colones ) is the currency of Costa Rica.

The Colón was introduced in 1897 and replaced the peso. He was first divided into 100 Céntimos, from 1917 to 1919 into 100 centavos, and then again in Céntimos.

The currency symbol is ₡ (Unicode: U 20 A1 colon sign ).

He was named after Christopher Columbus, whose name in Spanish is Cristóbal Colón.

  • Banknotes to 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000 colones,
  • Coins to 500, 100, 50, 25, 10 and 5 colones.
