Count of Soissons

A county Soissons Soissons capital is the end of the 9th century in the hands of Heribert II, Count of Vermandois. His descendants hold the county until the 14th century.

Through marriage, the county then goes on to Joan of Hainaut, then to Louis of Châtillon, Count of Blois. His son Guido sells Enguerrand VII de Coucy in 1367. Enguerrands daughter Marie sold a portion on to Duke Louis of Orléans, who then with the accession of Louis XII. is combined with the Domaine royal.

1413 Robert of Bar gets the Counties and Marle (residual) Soissons as compensation for the loss of the Duchy of Bar Among his descendants Soissons is inherited. Last Count of Soissons, Prince Eugene of Savoy, the imperial commander, with his death in 1736, the county Soissons falls back to the crown.

In the 12th century, a vice county Soissons is set up for the Castellan of Coucy.
