Cuba women's national volleyball team
The Cuban national volleyball team of women is a selection of the best Cuban players, the Federación Cubana de Voleibol represented in international tournaments and international matches.
History
World Championships
Cuba took first time in 1970 at a volleyball World Cup finals and finished eighth. At the following tournament, the Cubans increased to seventh place. In 1978 she was the first world champion in the final against Japan. After a fifth place in 1982 they reached the final again in 1986, where they lost against China. 1990 there were a fourth place. 1994 brought the Cubans against hosts Brazil to their second World Cup title she defended four years later against China. In the tournaments in 2002, 2006 and 2010, there were places with five, seven and twelve poorer results.
Olympic games
In Munich in 1972, Cuba was the first time in the Olympic tournament there and finished sixth. For the Games in 1976 and 1980, the Cubans were fifth. Twelve years later, started her successful series. In the tournaments in 1992 ( against Russia ), 1996 ( against China ) and 2000 ( again against Russia), they were washed three times in a row Olympic champion. 2004 in Sydney they took bronze. 2008 Beijing missed the Cubans with a 1-3 defeat in the match for third place against the hosts a medal.
NORCECA Championships
In the first NORCECA Championship in 1969 and 1971 in their own country Cuba defeated each in the final against Mexico. In 1973, the Cubans against Canada for the first time NORCECA champion and defended the title three times in a row against the United States. 1981 and 1983 they failed in the final against the same opponents. She then won the title eight times in succession ( seven times against the United States, even to Canada). From 2001 to 2005, then again the U.S. successful in the final. 2007 Cuba won its 13th NORCECA title.
World Cup
In the first edition of the World Cup 1973 Cuba ranked fifth. 1977 reached the Cuban women already the final against Japan. After the sixth place in 1981 they were in 1985 again in the final and subject to China. Then they won the competition from 1989 to 1999 four times in a row ( against the Soviet Union, China, Brazil and Russia). 2003 and 2007 there was the sixth and four.
World Grand Prix
In the final against China Cuba was the first winner of the 1993 World Grand Prix. It was followed by two third places and two playoff defeats to Brazil and Russia. After the third place in 1998 and fifth place in 1999, there were in 2000 against Russia, the second title. Subsequently, the results were worse with rank four and seven. 2003, the contest ended in the preliminary round. From 2004 to 2006, Cuba was fourth positions respectively. 2007, there was only enough for seventh place. In the 2008 competition, the Cubans had to admit defeat to Brazil.
