Cumari

Cumari is a political Brazilian municipality in the state of Goias in the micro-region Catalão.

  • To the north by the municipality Goiandira
  • To the east by Catalão
  • In the south Araguari (MG) ​​and Anhanguera with the border river Paranaíba
  • On the west by Corumbaíba with the Rio Veríssimo as a border river, which forms a tributary of the Emborcação Lake in this area

History

The current region of the municipality was named to the colonial period Sesmaria das Rosas and was on the itinerary of expeditions with mules of Itapemirim in the vicinity of Catalão and towards Goyaz, the then capital of Goiás. In 1904 the presence of a village center with a primary school has been established. The settlement, then called Samambaia, based upon the nearby creek, was renamed in 1908 Cumari, after the indigenous name of a plant found there: the Cumari pepper. In the same year an accommodation for travelers and a trading company was formed. From 1910, with the construction of the railway route of the railway company Estrada de Ferro de Goiás, the settlement made ​​great progress. The railway construction had great impact on the population and the timber trade. The station with the station building was opened in 1913.

Administrative emergence

In 1927 Cumari was raised to the district of Catalão and 1931 separated from it and assigned to the new community Goiandira. 1943 acquired the district Cumari parts of the districts Catalão and Goiandira. On December 10, 1947 Cumari was elevated to municipality and separated from Goiandira January 1, 1949.

On November 11, 1948, the district Anhanguera was created by law and assigned to the municipality Cumari. The district Anhanguera 1953 collected by separation of Cumari an independent municipality.
