Czech Republic men's national volleyball team

The Czech national volleyball team of men is a selection of the best Czech players who represented the Czech Association ( Český Volejbalový Svaz ) in international tournaments and international matches. By 1993, played the Czechoslovak national volleyball team.

History

World Championships

1949 Czechoslovakia hosted the first World Volleyball championship, losing in the finals of the Soviet Union. The same result, there were 1952 in the Soviet Union. 1956, Czechoslovakia was against Romania for the first time world champion. In the next two tournaments, the defending champion was defeated by the Soviets again. 1966 won the Czechoslovaks in their own country and again against Romania 's second crown. Then they stopped coming in the top three. About number four and five, it went down to ninth. 1994 lacked the Czechs only time in a World Championship tournament. 1998 and 2002 they did not come through two digit places beyond. At the 2006 World Championships she retired from in the second round.

Olympic games

At the first tournament in Tokyo in 1964 saw the greatest Olympic success for Czechoslovakia. She had to admit defeat to the Soviet Union and won silver. At the tournament in 1968 there was the bronze medal. Then it was enough even to places six ( 1972), five ( 1976) and seven ( 1980). Since then, the Czechs could not qualify in 2008 in Beijing they are not there.

European Championships

Czechoslovakia was 1948, the first European Volleyball Champion. Two years later, the defending champion lost the final of the Soviet Union. After missing out on the 1951 tournament Czechoslovaks in 1955 and 1958, each won two more titles against Romania, once against the hosts and once in front of their audience. In 1963, she was only fifth, but 1967 and 1971 they were again in the final against the Soviets. There followed three sixth places and the fourth and fifth, before there was the fourth final defeat against their great rivals from the East in 1985. After another sixth place and a failed qualification, the Czechs were in the 1990s, initially unable to build on earlier successes. 1999 and 2001 it reached again for the fourth place. But in 2003, resigned as the Czech Republic in the first round like 2005. For 2007, the Czech Republic failed to qualify.

World Cup

In the first edition of the World Cup the Czechoslovakia was third. In 1969 she finished fifth. 1985 reached the Czechoslovaks again the third place.

World League

Czech Republic played in 2003 with the so far only time in the World League and finished fourth rank.

Europe League

The first Final Four of Euroleague took place in 2004 in the Czech Republic and the hosts won the title. 2005 and 2007 it reached only the seventh and ninth.
