Czerniki ( German Black Stone ) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in the community Kętrzyn.

Geographical location

East of the village about two miles away is the lakes and Mój Sieroz.

History

The village was laid out in 1394 by Kulm law. In the 14th century, the settlement possessed an area of ​​41 feet. In addition, there was already a tavern and a mill was built in 1394. Also at the end of the 14th century the church today was built. After the Second World War the town was first renamed Czarny Kamien ( the literal translation of the German name ) and from 1946 in Czerniki. 1945 opened a primary school in the village and the village was the seat of a municipality. Through administrative reform, the village came 1975 on the newly formed Province Olsztyn. After its dissolution Czerniki was from 1999 part of the Warmia - Mazury.

1785 31 buildings were counted in the village, in 1818 there were 34 residential buildings. 1890 30 Poland lived in the place.

Legend

The legend about the name origin says that a church was built in the village beginning of colonization. However, lived not far from the settlement of the devil, to whom this was an eyesore. Therefore, he decided a large black stone throw to the church. While there was the devil with the stone on the way to church, suddenly heard the cry of a cock, and then the devil took flight and the stone are allowed. Therefore the place was named Black Stone. In fact, a black about three feet wide stein is in the nearby forest. This was transported during the ice age there.

Church

The church was built in the late 14th century and is located on a small hill. 1749/1750 and 1771/1772, the church was renovated in 1885 / 1886. A sacristy and a porch was added to the end of the 19th century. In 1990, a renovation of the church, another in 2009.

Traffic

Leads through the village only a small country road that opens about two kilometers southwest of the provincial road 592 and thus connects the village with about three kilometers away Kętrzyn. In eastern direction, the road leads to Gierłoż, which is about four kilometers away. The nearest international airport is Szczytno - Szymany, the only seasonal but offers regular services.
