The Daegu Stadium ( Hangul: 대구 스타디움 ) is a multifunctional stadium with an athletics track in the South Korean city of Daegu in the eastern province of Gyeongsangbuk -do.

History

The arena was built for the FIFA World Cup 2002 for approximately € 185 million and accounted for at that time the name Daegu World Cup Stadium ( Hangul: 대구 월드컵 경기장 ). The stadium carries the nickname Blue Arc (German: Blue bow ). On 5 March 2008, it got its present name. It was after the Yokohama International the venue with the second largest seating capacity. Today it offers 65 754 spectators to be seated; among which are 1,237 VIP seats and 192 seats for disabled. To the plant are 3,550 parking spaces available.

Construction began on 29 July 1997 and was opened on 28 June 2001. The roof of the stadium consists of two steel arches, each with a span of 273 meters; spanning the main and opposite stand. The total weight of the roof is 4.350 T, and the roof consists of a glass fiber reinforced PTFE membrane. For nearly 75 percent of the roof covers the spectator seats.

As a dress rehearsal for the World Cup of the Confederations Cup was held in 2001, inter alia, also held in Daegu. One year after the World Cup, the sports venue was the scene of the Summer Universiade in 2003. During the second soccer - East Asia Championship in 2005 Daegu was one of three venues. The Daegu Stadium is a year of the start and finish point of the Daegu Marathon. From 27 August to 4 September 2011, the 13th World Championships in Athletics were held in the stadium in Daegu.
