Danny Wilson (footballer born 1960)

Daniel Joseph " Danny" Wilson ( born January 1, 1960 in Wigan ) is a former Northern Irish football player and current coach. Since 2013 he coached the English second division side FC Barnsley.

Playing career

Brighton & Hove Albion (1983-1987)

Danny Wilson spent the first years of his career with the unterklassigen clubs Wigan Athletic, Bury FC and FC Chesterfield, before he was hired by the English first division club Nottingham Forest on 24 January 1983. Wilson scored a goal in ten league matches of the Football League First Division 1982 /83. At the beginning of the 1983/84 season he was loaned out to third division side Scunthorpe United, before he left already Nottingham on 30 November 1983 for £ 100,000 moved to the second division Brighton & Hove Albion. Northern Ireland national team (1986-1992)

Coaching career

Barnsley FC

Sheffield United

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, he took over as coach at third division Sheffield United and ended the Football League One 2011/12 on the third place. In the play-off finals United failed on penalties to Huddersfield Town and thus missed the direct return to the second division. On April 10, 2013, the club announced the separation of Danny Wilson. Sheffield United at this time was on the fifth rank of the Football League One 2012/13.

Barnsley FC

On December 17, 2013 Danny Wilson was introduced as the new coach of the second division bottom club Barnsley FC.
