1987–88 Football League Cup
The League Cup 1987/88 was the 28th edition of the existing since 1960 English League Cup.
The competition started on August 17, 1987 with the First Round and ended on 24 April 1988 with the final at Wembley. The title went to Luton Town, who defeated the defending champions Arsenal FC in the final 3-2. The club from Luton thus secured in his first finals the first title in the English League Cup. Arsenal had the early residue rotated by two goals in the 71st and 74th minute, before Nigel Winterburn in the 80th minute missed a penalty at Luton's goalkeeper Andy Dibble and thus missed the preliminary decision possible. Two goals from Danny Wilson and Brian Stone secured the underdogs Luton Town ultimately the title.
