2008–09 Football League Cup
The League Cup 2008/ 09 was the 49th edition of the tournament The Carling Cup or League Cup. The tournament started with 92 clubs.
The competition started on 11 August 2008 with the First Round and ended with the final at the new Wembley Stadium in London on 1 March 2009. The winner of the competition was Manchester United.
First round
The draw for the first round was held on 13 June 2008. All 72 teams in the Football League competed in the first round.
North
Second Round
In the second round 12 Premier League clubs went into the competition, including those eleven who could not qualify for a European competition in the last season.
Third Round
From the third round and the clubs had to play, who had qualified for the current season for European competitions.

The semi-final matches were held in January. The semi-final was the first and only round that was discharged with return game.
