David Izonritei

David Izon ( born April 29, 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria as David Izonritei ) is a former Nigerian heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

Izon won in 1991 at the Military World Championships silver medal, taking in the final against Bert Teuchert, Germany ( 19:8 ), lost. The Pan-African Games in the same year in Cairo, he won the gold medal, but different at the 1991 World Championships in Sydney in the first fight against Arnold Vanderlyde, Netherlands ( 22:2 ), from. In 1992 he participated in the Olympics for Nigeria. He opened the way to the finals, among other Kirk Johnson, Canada ( 9:5 ), and David Tua, Netherlands ( 12:7 ), but lost in the battle for gold against Félix Savón, Cuba ( 14:1 ).

Professional career

It was 1993 Alton Merkenson, the coach of Roy Jones Jr., in the U.S. pro. Particularly impressive was his fights but only the tremendous impact his right, technically good boxing you saw less.

He eventually lost in his 19th pro fight in March 1996 against Maurice Harris on points. Harris then pointed to five wins and six losses, but was later known by victories against some well-known boxer like Syarhey Ljachowitsch. In the very next fight he faced his amateur rival Tua. Here Izon was until shortly before the end on points forward, but still lost by technical knockout in the twelfth and final round.

Lou Savarese in 1997 he hit KO was designated as a world class, but then lost early against the unbeaten Michael Grant, in contrast to the Tua fight he was here from the beginning, a chance.

As a result, he won by KO against Darrol Wilson, who had Shannon Briggs added his first defeat, and the undefeated young star Derrick Jefferson. At the end, he was put against the undefeated Fres Oquendo in December 2001, one as a good boxer assessed with little clout opponents. Izon lost the one-sided fight by TKO in the third round. He was only a shadow of former days. Even against the undefeated Joe Mesi he went KO. When he suffered the third consecutive defeat against Al Cole, he finished his career.
