David Kikoski

James David "Dave" Kikoski ( born September 29, 1961 in New Brunswick) is an American jazz pianist and keyboard player.

Life and work

Dave Kikoski learned to play the piano from his father. He played as a teenager with his father in bars. Early 1980s Kikoski studied at the Berklee College of Music. In 1985 he went to New York City and toured mainly with Roy Haynes ( 1986 ), Randy Brecker ( 1986-88 ), Bob Berg (1988) and Billy Hart ( 1989). He also played with George Garzone, Barry Finnerty, Red Rodney, Craig Handy, Ralph Moore, Didier Lockwood, Joe Locke and the Mingus Big Band. At the beginning of 2011 Kikoski plays again with Randy Brecker and his wife, the saxophonist Ada Rovati, Dave de la Spina and Adam Nussbaum. Kikoski tried occasionally also on alto saxophone.

Since 1989 Kikoski recorded a number of albums for the label Criss Cross Jazz and DIW Records, where musicians such as Seamus Blake, Scott Colley, Larry Grenadier, John Patitucci and Jeff Tain Watts participated.
