Deane C. Davis

Deane Chandler Davis ( born November 7, 1900 in Barre, Washington County, Vermont; † December 8, 1990 in Montpelier, Vermont ) was an American politician and 1969-1973 Governor of the State of Vermont.

Early years and business promotion

Deane Davis attended Spaulding High School until 1918. After a subsequent law degree from Boston University, he was admitted to the bar in 1922. After that he began in his hometown of Barre to work in this profession. Davis was then a member of the city council. Between 1924 and 1926 he also worked as a lawyer for this city. From 1931 to 1936 he was a judge in a court ( Superior Court ) in Vermont. After that, he was until 1940 a partner of the well-known law firm Wilson, Carver, Davis and Keyser. All four partners should do in the future political and legal career in Vermont. Deane Davis and Stanley C. Wilson were governors of Vermont, Carver became Minister of Justice of that State and Keyser Supreme Court Justice of Vermont. Since 1940, he also worked for the National Life Insurance Company. Governor of Vermont
