Deaux
Deaux is a municipality with 628 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Région de Vézénobres.
Geography
Deaux lies in the valley of the Gardon d' Alès, 55 kilometers northeast of Montpellier, 32 kilometers northwest of Nîmes and 9 kilometers south-east of Alès. The Droude flows through the municipal area.
History
From the Middle Ages to 1749 Deaux belonged to Viguerie of Alès. The parish of Deaux part of the diocese of St- Théodorit d' Uzès and the Office of the Dean of Navacelles.
Attractions
In the area around Vézénobres many so-called capitelle (also provided Occitan capitèla ), even at Deaux are capitelle. It involves dome-shaped huts which were built without mortar. They were often used by wine producers, but also served generally to farmers, their livestock and their tools to provide temporary shelter. A dating of capitelle is difficult. In Deaux exist capitelle 32 of the 202 that are present in a total of Canton Vézénobres.
The former Church of Deaux was destroyed in the 17th century, Deaux is today one of the few municipalities in France who have no church. The bell tower is, however, still towers over the town center.
Economy
Major lines of business of Dauxois (residents ) are viticulture, animal feed production and breeding of domestic sheep. However, the viticulture loses since the 1980s in importance.
