Derek Mayer

Derek Christopher Mayer ( born May 21, 1967 in Rossland, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who was active for the polar bear Berlin in the DEL between 1996 and 2001.

Career

Meyer began his career in 1984 at the Penticton Knights before it. 1985 a scholarship to the University of Denver There he played for the ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association College Football. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1986, the leaders of the Detroit Red Wings secured the rights to the defender when they selected him in the third round at a total of 43 positions. After he finished his studies in 1988, he was Canada then a active season for the team. In the summer of 1989 he moved to the American Hockey League at that farm team of the Detroit Red Wings, the Adirondack Red Wings. While he was in his first season in 1989/90 in Glens Falls had a regular place in the team, he lost this already in the following season and then was employed with the San Diego Gulls of the International Hockey League.

After the 1991/92 season he left the Adirondack Red Wings and went again for Team Canada to the ice. As a free agent, he signed during the 1993/94 season a contract with the Ottawa Senators, where he completed 17 games, scoring four points scorer. He was able to sit down with the senator not. It was followed by a further year at the Atlanta Knights of the IHL before he forced a move to Europe in the summer of 1995 and joined the Finnish club Tappara Tampere in the SM- liiga. With the polar bears he reached the third place in the 1999 European Hockey League. In 2001 he left the club and was then to 2005 for the EC Bad Tolz in the 2nd Bundesliga active. His career ended Meyer after the 2005/06 season at SC Riessersee.

After the end of his active career, he worked first at Hockey polar bears Juniors Berlin as a coach, before it undertook the charge of the Nuremberg Ice Tigers of the DEL. There he was employed since 2009 as an assistant coach alongside Andreas Brockmann, took over in September 2011 after the dismissal of Brockmann the position as head coach on an interim basis and was also dismissed after a weekend. Currently (2012 ) he trains the students Bundesliga Team of the EC Bad Tölz.

Internationally

Mayer participated at the world championships in 1993 and 1996 and the Olympics in 1994 with the Canadian national team. He completed a total of 24 A- international caps and scored five points scorer. He also conceded 22 penalty minutes.
