Diana Gansky

Diana Gansky, born axis ( born December 14, 1963 in Bergen auf Rügen), is a former German track and field athlete and Olympic medalist, who belonged in the 1980s to the world's best discus throwers. Starting for the GDR, it was European champion in 1986 ( under her birth name axis ) and 1987 and 1988 respectively second in the world championships and the Olympic Games.

Even at age 17 she was 1981 Junior European Champion, but then took a few years to enforce under the powerful discus throwers of the GDR. There she stood in the shade most of Martina Hellmann (which they defeated only at the European Championships 1986). For a long time they trained together with Gabriele Reinsch, the world record holder since July 1988 with 76,80 m. As of the end of season 2004 Diana Gansky is the only woman in the world to reach 24 throws over 70 meters in competitions.

Diana Gansky launched for the forward ASK Potsdam and trained with Lothar Hillebrand. In her playing days, she was 1.84 m tall and weighed 92 kg. She studied sports science, trained by the end of the GDR on lifeguard around and was later self-employed physical therapist. In 1989, she retired from professional sport. Later, she remained active as a Senior athlete and European champion in 2002. She has a daughter.

Gansky 1986 and 1988 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
