Die Skeptiker

The skeptic is a punk band founded in East Berlin in 1986. She was one of the greatest punk rock bands of the GDR and could also depend on the change in the total German music scene established.

Band History

Skeptics was founded in 1986 by singer Eugene Balanskat, guitarist Andreas Kupsch and Christoph Buntrock, bassist Andreas Welfle and drummer Marcel Hofer. The group belonged to formations such as Sandow, The nature, Feeling B, thousand tonnes of fruit and the company of the more important groups of musical GDR underground, known in the result soon as the other bands. The punk rock band (as well as other groups ) was difficult to reconcile with socialist realism, so that official record productions with the state label Amiga were for a long time for all East German underground bands impossible. So the first two releases of the skeptics OT appeared ( Untitled ) 1988 1989 or screams self-released on tape. Due to the increasing popularity of the band itself Amiga was forced to produce the EP 1990 1989 The other bands and the LP Hard Times.

On April 4, 1990 rose guitarist Buntrock (later active in Mamacry.L ) left the band. On April 5, 1990 he also Andreas Kupsch followed (later of Pink Parsons, vines table, Incredible Incident and The Zusamm - eradication ), Marcel Hofer (later of Pink Parsons, Halmakenreuther and Sub Dub Micro Machine ) and Andreas Welfle. Balanskat sought new allies and worked under the same name on.

1991 appeared in Rough Trade / Our Choice LP mess in the cast Balanskat, Mathias Kahle, Lars Rudell ( Cultus Ferox, Blind Passengers ), Jan Fretwurst and Günther Spalda ( Pink Extra, Hard Pop, BRONX ). In 1993, the album Black messenger on which Uli Kusch (known from bands like Ride the Sky, Shock Machine, Axe La Chapelle, Holy Moses, Roland Grapow, Gamma Ray, Beautiful Sin, Mekong Delta, Sinner, master plan and Helloween ) Spalda to the Drums replaced. A year later, a live album was released in 1995 with steel bird warrior again a regular album. Appeared in 1998 Defend yourself! , On which in addition to the long-term members Balanskat and Rudell with Tom Schwoll ( Kumpelbasis, Sin City Circus Ladies, Jingo de Lunch, Extra Wide), Henning Menke ( Skew Siskin, Jingo de Lunch ) and Nicki Gogow ( Knorkator, Deadly Toys Aschenbach, BOON, Black) three new band members were active.

2000, the band broke up temporarily. Balanskat founded the band later renamed Rotorfon Red Poppy, played punk rock versions of popular songs of the 20s, 30s and 40s. 2006 saw the 20-year -anniversary reunion of the skeptics with performances and Others in Dresden, Cottbus and Rostock. In the summer of 2007, there were more appearances at festivals such as the Force Attack. In addition, the band has been working on the re-recording old songs, which then appeared in November 2007 under the title of Dada in Berlin. In parallel, another tour took place in November and December 2007.

In October 2009 a new studio album with the title Eat and morality has been published. In addition, the skeptics were in the fall of 2008 and in the fall of 2009 on tour again. The end of 2012 Weir gave the band two exclusive club concerts in Berlin and Dresden in the cast Balanskat, Rudell, Schwoll, Kiki cable (actually Christopher Zabel, formerly in power ) and Wieland (formerly at Skinny ), where first title published in September 2013 album Aufsteh'n were presented. The album release was accompanied by a tour in the fall of 2013.
