Diego Martin is a region and administrative unit in Trinidad in Trinidad and Tobago.

Geography

Diego Martin lies in the north of Trinidad. In the east it borders on San Juan- Laventille and to the southeast by Port of Spain. To the north it is bounded by the Caribbean Sea and to the south by the Gulf of Paria.

Diego Martin is the most important touristic region of Trinidad, as it includes both the largest marina in the country as well as the locals like to traffic, west offshore island groups Bocas Islands and Five Islands. In the north of the region are also scenic foothills of the Northern Range. Major cities and places in Diego Martin are:

History

By 1990, Trinidad was divided into counties. In the context of an administrative reform ( Municipal Corporations Act No. 21) in 1990, all counties were dissolved and created new administrative units. From parts of the County of Saint George Diego Martin was.

Economy

A not insignificant economic factor in Diego Martin is the marina in Chaguaramas Bay, the 3000 boot offers berths and due to its location south of the hurricane belt a favorite with sailors space for sitting out the hurricane season. Furthermore, there are in Chaguaramas Bay some smaller shipyards and facilities for maritime trade.
