Tunapuna - Piarco is a region and administrative unit in Trinidad in Trinidad and Tobago.

Geography

Tunapuna - Piarco is located north of Trinidad. To the west it borders on San Juan- Laventille, on the southwest by Chaguanas, Couva - Tabaquite in the south - Talparo and on the east by the Sangre Grande. In the north, Tunapuna - Piarco bordering the Caribbean Sea, and in the southeast of the region it encloses the independent Arima Borough completely. Since it covers large parts of the East -West Corridor, it is the most populous administrative unit in Trinidad. Due to its location it also includes large parts of the Northern Range. The region is divided into 71 local communities. Major cities in Tunapuna - Piarco are:

History

By 1990, Trinidad was divided into counties. In the context of an administrative reform ( Municipal Corporations Act No. 21) in 1990, all counties were dissolved and new administrative units (" Regional Corporation " ) was created. In 1992, the Municipal Corporations Act No. 21 modified in part in order to reduce the number of administrative entities. From parts of the counties of Saint George was so Tunapuna - Piarco.

Economy

Since Tunapuna - Piarco includes large parts of East - West Corridors, a significant part of Trinidad's economic performance is provided here. There are many companies in the food and light industry to meet local demand and the supply of the neighboring islands. The service sector is dominated by financial services providers such as banks, insurance companies and many wholesale and retail businesses. Due to the drainage of the Northern Range to the south of the ground along the East - West corridor is very fertile, so have settled a number of farms on the outskirts of the agglomeration.
