Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar " Didi " Hamann ( born August 27, 1973 in Forest Assen ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career as a player

Clubs

Dietmar Hamann initially grew up in Konnersreuth, before the family moved to Munich in 1976. He came as a junior player from FC Wacker München FC Bayern Munich.

He graduated to 1998 106 Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich before he moved to the English club Newcastle United. From there he moved a year later for a fee of eight million pounds to Liverpool, where he spent seven years active and 191 games in the Premier League completed. For the 2006 World Cup Hamann was not nominated. He subsequently went back from the national team. The reason he stated that the World Cup would be due to age have been his last major tournament. Failure nomination did not surprise him, as he had before the World Cup had no contact with national coach Jürgen Klinsmann.

Career as a coach

After his time as player-manager of Milton Keynes Dons Hamann signed a contract as an assistant coach at second division Leicester City. In July 2011 he took over as coach at the English fifth-tier Stockport County, but resigned in November of the same year back from his office, because, according to his statement, promised investments were not realized in the team.

Hamann's older brother Matthias also played as a professional football player in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. From the beginning of the 2009/10 season until the beginning of February 2010, he was coach of the Austrian Bundesliga LASK Linz.

1997 Hamann suffered at the age of 23 years a slight stroke.

In February 2010 Hamann driver's license was revoked for 16 months after he was found under the influence of alcohol on July 12, 2009 in Styal, Cheshire by the police while driving a vehicle. In addition, a fine of 1,990 pounds was imposed on him.

Hamann was during the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 expert for the Irish television station RTÉ.
