Diocese of Borgå

The Diocese of Porvoo ( in Swedish pen and Porvoo in Finnish Porvoon hiippakunta ) is one of nine dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. Bishop's seat is the Cathedral of Porvoo (Swedish Porvoo ). The Diocese of Porvoo includes the Swedish-speaking communities and municipalities with Swedish-speaking majority in Finland as well as the German Evangelical Lutheran church in Finland.

History

The original diocese based in Porvoo was converted to the Diocese of Tampere in 1923. This has made it possible to meet the desire of the Swedish-speaking Finns to have their own diocese.
