Dmitry Afanasenkov

Dmitry Afanassenkow (Russian: Дмитрий Анатольевич Афанасенков; born May 12, 1980 in Arkhangelsk, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player, who was last at Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the Kontinental Hockey League contract. Overall, he has completed 255 games in the National Hockey League for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa won with the 2004 Stanley Cup.

Career

Afanassenkow began his playing career in 1995 with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the second Russian league. NHL Entry Draft 1998, he was selected by Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round, 72nd ( drafted ). As early as the following season, he moved to North America and played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the Moncton Wildcats. The following two years he played for the Sherbrooke Castors then. At the beginning of the 2000 /01 Dmitri Afanassenkow signed his first professional contract with Tampa Bay, but was used until 2003 mainly in the farm teams Detroit Vipers, Grand Rapids Griffins or Springfield Falcons. It was not until training camp before the season 2003/ 04 he was able to prevail and got a place in the NHL squad of Lightning. This trust he justified with six goals and eleven assists during the regular season. In the play-offs he could score three more points and helped Tampa Bay to win the Stanley Cup.

During the lockout in the 2004/05 season Afanassenkow played in his homeland for Lada Togliatti, but returned in 2005 back to Tampa. In July 2006 he signed a one year contract, but since he could not meet the expectations of the coach, he was set on 30 December 2006 on the waiver list. The Philadelphia Flyers committed him then until the end of the season. In 41 games for the Flyers, he was able to achieve 15 points scorer, but got after the end of the season, no new contract offer and became the unrestricted free agent. On 1 August 2007 the HK Dynamo Moscow took him under contract, for whom he played in the next two years in the Super League and KHL.

In September 2009, his club sent him to the farm team, because it was dissatisfied with Afanassenkow benefits and recruitment. He passed the KHL waiver and was then obliged Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. After spending the 2010/11 season at HC Traktor Chelyabinsk, he returned to the following season back in the Swiss NLA, where he received a contract with Fribourg- Gottéron in October 2011.

From July 2012, Afanassenkow stood at Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg under contract before his contract in mid-October of the same year was disbanded.

Internationally

Dmitri Afanassenkow represented his country at the U20 World Cup in 2000 and the World Cup of Hockey 2004.
