Domenico Calcagno

Domenico Calcagno Cardinal ( born February 3, 1943 in Parodi Ligure, Province of Alessandria, Italy ) is a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

After studying humanities at the seminary of Genoa Domenico Calcagno was sent to Rome for further studies. He graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University, a diploma in dogmatics. Calcagno received on 29 June 1967 Giuseppe Cardinal Siri, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Domenico Calcagno was after several years in the parish ministry professor of Catholic theology at the Genoese location of the Faculty of Theology of Northern Italy. After that, he was a lecturer at the Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religious in Genoa. Calcagno was president of the Diocesan Institute for the support of the clergy and Episcopal Vicar for " New Activity ". He also served as President of the Commission for the priests, and as inspector of the Institute of Religious Studies in the Italian Episcopal Conference. After that, he was director of the Commission for Mission and cooperation between the churches, and economist of the Italian Episcopal Conference. He is a member of Constantine Order.

On 25 January 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Savona - Noli. He received his episcopal consecration on March 9, 2002, the Archbishop of Milan, Dionigi Cardinal Tettamanzi; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa, Cardinal Giovanni Canestri, and the Apostolic Nuncio to Italy and San Marino, and later Cardinal, Archbishop Paolo Romeo. July 7, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Secretary of the administration of goods of the Apostolic See, and raised him in a personal capacity to the rank of archbishop. Domenico Calcagno resigned as Bishop of Savona - Noli on the same day. On January 5, 2011, he was named Benedict XVI. the consultant to the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers.

On July 7, 2011, he was named Benedict XVI. President of the estate management of the Apostolic See. With this office he also took over the management of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice and Peregrinatio ad Petri Sedem. He is successor of Cardinal Nicora member of the cardinal of the Istituto per le Opere Commission di Religione (since 2013)

In solemn consistory of February 18, 2012 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Annunciazione della Beata Vergine Maria a Ardeatina in the College of Cardinals. After Benedict's resignation Cardinal Calcagno took part in the conclave of 2013.

Since April 21, 2012 Cardinal Calcagno is a member of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care.
