Dominic Duval

Dominic Duval (* April 27, 1945 in New York City ) is an American jazz bassist and bandleader of Creative Modern and avant-garde jazz.

Life and work

Duval learned from the age of ten saxophone; Since 1958, he focused on the double bass, which he adopted a self-taught. He has worked since the 1960s in the peripheral areas of jazz. Only in the 1990s, he reached international notoriety through his work with Cecil Taylor, which lasted until 2005 and in the Cadence album " Qu'a - Live at the Iridium " was reflected, and the participation in the band of Joe McPhee ( " Seiro ", 1998). In addition, Duval since the mid- 1990s a number of albums under his own name, among others, the production of "The Navigator" for the label Leo Records with his string ensemble consisting of violinist Jason Hwang, the violist Ron Lawrence and cellist Tomas Ulrich. With his ensemble, he joined in 1998, extended to the wind Joe McPhee and Mark White Cage in New York's Knitting Factory on. He also played with Nora McCarthy.
