Doenitz is a district of the city blocks in the Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

Doenitz is located in the Altmark region, about 20 km northeast of Wolfsburg. The place is about five kilometers from the existing west border to Lower Saxony. The nearest international road link is the federal highway 248 which runs about six kilometers west of Doenitz. The village lies on the geological Calvörder plaice.

History

Doenitz is a Wendish foundation. The name comes from the old Slavic Duno and means " place in the valley ." Doenitz consisted of three parts Doenitz, Altferchau and Schwarzendamm that were 1938 independent communities until 31 March to 1 January 2010. All three places have a history that goes far back into the Middle Ages.
