Doolittle is the second studio album by the American indie rock band Pixies. It was released on April 18, 1989 via 4AD.

Genesis

After the release of Surfer Rosa, which was published on 21 March 1988 began frontman Frank Black to write new pieces. As a producer for the new album selected from the 4AD founder Ivo Watts - Russell Gil Norton, the Pixies had already worked together in the recordings for the notice published in May 1988 Single Gigantic. The shooting began on 31 October 1988 and ended on 23 November of the same year.

Album name

The name Doolittle is used in the song Mr. Grieves:

" Pray for a man in the middle, one that talks like Doolittle. "

" Doolittle " refers in this song on Doctor Dolittle and symbolizes the counterpart to Mr. Grieves (Eng. " Mr. Gram " ), as a human with the ability to speak with animals, so make statements about the future and, where appropriate, to can turn positive.

Style and reception

The lyrics on " Doolittle " have different influences; as the opening track Debaser quotes the surrealist film Un Chien Andalou, while Monkey Gone to Heaven focuses on environmental disasters. Dead and Gouge Away finally deal with the biblical stories of David and Bathsheba and Samson and Delilah.

" Doolittle " was " 150 plates for eternity " recorded in 2006 by the readers of the magazine Visions in the list of which was published in issue 150. Also in the Ultimate Music Collection of the magazine Q was to find " Doolittle ".

Critics were mostly impressed by " Doolittle "; as the editors of the British magazines Sounds and Melody Maker declared the album the second best of the year, respectively in 1989, and the Rolling Stone was full of praise.
