Douglas Smith (special effects artist)

Douglas " Doug " Smith ( California ) is a VFX supervisor, who won the Oscar for Independence Day.

Life

As the son of military personnel, he grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, was in its infancy but also in Morocco and Puerto Rico. Early in his career, he was hired by the George Lucas fresh gegründetem company Industrial Light & Magic. There he worked for the film Star Wars as a cameraman and production assistant. He then worked until 1992 at Apogee Productions, at the beginning of the pilot episode of Battlestar Galactica, then for films such as Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Firefox, and Spaceballs. Since 1998 he works for the Rhythm & Hues Studios, where he worked as a VFX supervisor. He was involved among other things in the films The Flintstones in Viva rock Vegas, Dr. Dolittle 2, and Evan Almighty.

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Visual Effects Society and the Directors Guild of America.
