Drahovce

Drahovce ( Drachowitz German, Hungarian Vágdebrőd - to 1907 Drahóc ) is a municipality in Piešťany Okres within the Trnavský kraj in Slovakia, with about 2,600 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Slovak Danube lowland, in the Danube hills. It is located right next door to the Waag, more precisely of the channel Drahovský kanál; on the other side of the river rises the Inowetz, while to the north west, the Little Carpathians are visible. The place is located nine kilometers from Piešťany and nine kilometers from Leopoldov.

To the municipality next to the main town also includes the part Voderady which lies behind the highway.

History

The place was, then in 1246 first mentioned in 1113 as Debret as Scepdras writing. The inhabitants occupied themselves with agriculture and water mills were detected at the Waag. The place was pulled several times in the past by the Waag - flood in the affected, such as in the year 1813. The end of the flood hazard came after 1961, when the dam Sĺňava starting the Drahovský kanál for new hydroelectric power plant at Madunice was built.

Until 1918, the site was within the county Neutra in the Kingdom of Hungary, after which he came to Czechoslovakia and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia.
