Duchy of Belz

The Principality of Bel (Ukrainian Белзьке князівство / Bel ' ke knjasivstvo; Polish Belskie Księstwo ) was a Ruthenian principality in the west of present-day Ukraine and Poland in the east. It existed from 1170 to 1462.

History

The result was the principality in 1170 after the disintegration of Kievan Rus in Rus - independent part dominions. It was subject to as a vassal principality of several feudal states. First it was part of the Principality Volodymyr. In 1234 it came under the rule of the united Halych - Volodymyr Principality. 1340 came the rule Belz first time to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1366 it was known as the Principality of Chelm, Belz first part and a fief of the Kingdom of Poland. From 1370 it was again part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania before it came under the jurisdiction of the Polish-Hungarian king, Louis "the Great" 1377-1387. Then it was back as a fief and vassal principality of the Kingdom of Poland and was awarded in 1388 as a vassal rule at the line of Masovian Piast. 1462, the Principality of Belz was drafted as a completed fief by the Polish crown. In the area of the former princely state was constituted as a consequence the Polish voivodship Belz.
