Dudley DeGroot

Dudley Sargent DeGroot ( November 10, 1899 in Chicago, Illinois; † May 5, 1970 in El Cajon, California ) was an American football and rugby union player and later a successful college and NFL coach. DeGroot was with the U.S. Selection 1924 rugby union as Olympic champion and college football players in the same year an All - American; after his time as an active athlete he coached numerous successful college football teams, as well as in the 1940s, several professional teams, including 1944/45, the Washington Redskins.

Athlete

DeGroot was a multitalented athlete; he belonged to the teams at Stanford University in the water polo and basketball and was established in 1922 as captain of the football team the first player from the University football All-American. He was also 1923 and 1924 IC4A champion in the backstroke.
