Course
The river flow to two streams. The western branch ( West Branch ) of the DuPage River is 56.3 km long and rises in Schaumburg Campanelli Park in Cook County and flows south through the entire DuPage County including the cities of Bartlett, Wheaton, Warrenville, Winfield and Naperville.
The eastern arm ( East Branch ) of the DuPage River is 40.2 km long and rises in Bloomingdale and flows southward through Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Lisle, Woodridge, through parts of Naperville and parts of Bolingbrook. The two arms meet at a place between Naperville and Bolingbrook. The combined DuPage River flows from this point south through Plainfield and then west of Joliet before it finally empties into the Des Plaines River.
Floods
How many local waters were the two branches of the DuPage River in the flood of 1996 on the shore after in the area on 18 and 19 July 1996 was about 430 mm of rain over 24 hours. More flooding in the area of Washington Street in Naperville and Illinois Route 53 in Glen Ellyn were frequent, because the roads are near their respective arms of the river. The city of Naperville has demolished many of the affected homes and businesses. Also, the DuPage County has demolished with the financial support of the United States Department of Transportation in the area of Illinois Route houses.
