Gameplay

Combat system

As is common in other games of the genre, the fighters come individually to the fight. This differs from the first part of the later games of the series, in which the figures are broken down into fractions. The fighting in Dynasty Warriors are similar to Namco's Soul series, out with weapons, but they are more designed for realism. Kicks and punches are not included in the repertoire. The gameplay requires responsiveness and precision timing. The player's goal is to parry the opponent's attacks to counter the then vulnerable opponent with a counter- attack. The battles are fought at different times of day ( morning, afternoon, evening ) in arenas

Characters

The game includes 16 historical figures, mostly from the period of the Three Kingdoms in China; only the characters Nobunaga and Toukichi come from the Sengoku period of Japan. Six character are hidden at the beginning and have to be unlocked.
