Ébreuil

Ébreuil is a commune with 1279 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Allier in the Auvergne region. It belongs to the district Montlucon and is capital of the canton Ébreuil.

Geography

The 23.22 square kilometer comprehensive community lies at 310 m above sea level at the Sioule that accrues to the Allier from here in a broad, intensive agricultural valley. Ébreuil bordered to the south by the department of Puy -de- Dôme and is ten kilometers from Gannat as well as 27 km from Vichy.

History

The place dates back to a monastery, 906 at the relics of St.. Léger ( = Leger of Autun, at 616-679 ) was founded and incorporated in 1180 by the Benedictines.
