Échenoz-le-Sec

Échenoz -le -Sec is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Échenoz -le -Sec is located at an altitude of 313 m above sea level, about 10 km south of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department in the southwest of the Bay of Vellefaux in the rolling countryside stretching to the south between the valleys of the Saone in the northwest and Ognon, at the eastern foot of the Bois du Chanois.

The area of ​​15.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area hills east of Saônebeckens. The central part of the area is occupied by a pool, which is on average 310 m. It has a width of about two kilometers and is oriented southwest-northeast direction. Here predominant agricultural use, while the surrounding hills are mostly covered with forest. Flanked the basin to the west of the crest of the Bois du Chanois, on the 469 meters, the highest elevation of Échenoz -le -Sec is achieved. To the south, the wooded heights of the Bois de Chaillot and the Bois de Filain lead on to Einzungsgebiet Ognon. The eastern boundary is formed by the ridge of the Bois de Sainte -Anne ( to 405 m). The area consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous beds of Middle Jurassic time. On the whole municipality there are no significant above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

To Échenoz -le -Sec is one of the hamlet of Les Gambes (360 m ) on the southern slopes of the Bois de Sainte -Anne. Neighboring communities of Échenoz -le -Sec are Velleguindry -et- Levrecey and Vellefaux in the north, Filain in the east, and Authoison Pennesières in the south and Le Magnoray in the West.

History

The territory of Échenoz was inhabited in prehistoric times, which is the Dolmen de la Grosse Pierre testifies. Is first mentioned Échenoz -le -Sec in 1174 under the name Eschino Sicco. For later times the names Eschenodo (1350 ) and Eschenod le sec ( 1672) have survived. In the Middle Ages Échenoz -le -Sec belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Land ownership and rights in the village was owned since the 12th century, the monastery and the monastery of La Charité Bellevaux. Together with the Franche -Comté came Échenoz -le -Sec with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Échenoz -le -Sec is a member of the comprehensive six localities municipal association Communauté de communes du Chanois.

Attractions

The village church of Échenoz -le -Sec was built in 1775 on the site of a previous medieval building dating from the 13th century. Opposite the church is the Mairie ( Municipal House ) from the 19th century. The former seat of power in 1870 was destroyed by fire and collapsed into ruin. In the center a few houses from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. The 3,000 year old dolmen de la Grosse Pierre, which is on the border of Le Magnoray is classified as a monument historique.

Population

With 305 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Échenoz -le -Sec is one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 382 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again. Since then, the population has almost doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Échenoz -le -Sec was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N57, which runs from Vesoul to Besançon. It has a minimum four-lane sections in the field of Échenoz -le -Sec. Further road links exist with Vellefaux, Filain and Le Magnoray.
