Edu Dracena (2008)

Edu Dracena (born 18 May 1981 in Dracena, São Paulo), actually Eduardo Luís Abonízio de Souza, is a Brazilian footballer who also still holds Italian citizenship. He is currently at FC Santos under contract.

Career

Association

Edu Dracena began his career in 1995 as a youth player at Guarani FC from Campinas. He graduated in 1999 and his first game as a professional footballer. After that, Olympiacos Piraeus lent in the season 2002/ 03 Edu Dracena for half a season, but he came only sporadically inserts ( five league games). After a short European stint, he returned to the Guarani FC; these transferred him to the 2003 season Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte. In 2003 Cruzeiro, he celebrated winning the Brazilian championship and the Brazilian Cup. In the same year he was elected to the Golden Team of South America.

End of summer 2006, he spent 5.7 million Euro transfer fee again across the Atlantic, this time to the Turkish tradition club Fenerbahce. He signed a four -year contract. In his first year he became Turkish champion. On May 19, 2007 Fenerbahçe he scored the 500th goal against city rivals Galatasaray and celebrated at the same time its gate - first for Fenerbahçe. His contract was terminated at the beginning of the 2009/10 season, Fenerbahçe SK had too many foreign players under contract and had to leave because of the alien control in the Süper Lig Edu. He was also injured.

Then Edu Dracena returned to his native Brazil and moved to the end of September 2009 FC Santos. He signed a contract until 31 December 2012. In the 2010 season he won with the team the Brazilian Cup. He achieved an important goal in the final second leg. In 2011 he won with Santos the Copa Libertadores, the most important title in the South American club football.

National

After he had already played for the U20 and U23 national team, he was also appointed to the Brazilian national team in 2003 and was part of the squad for Brazil in the Confederations Cup 2003, but he played in the tournament a single game. His first international match in the Seleção took place only on 20 May 2004 in a friendly against France. While Carlos Dunga was the coach of Brazil, Edu Dracena was constantly in the extended squad of the Seleção. So far, Edu Dracena three 'A' matches has denied.
