Eduard Vinokurov

Eduard Teodorowitsch Vinokourov (Russian Эдуард Теодорович Винокуров; born October 30, 1942 in Baizhansai, Kazakh SSR, † 10 February, 2010 St Petersburg ) was a Soviet saber fencer. He won two gold medals and one silver medal in three Olympic appearances. From 1967 to 1975 he erfocht six world titles.

Career

Vinokourov was at the World Fencing Championship in 1966 for the first time in the Soviet team and won the silver medal behind the Hungarians. The following year, he won the Soviet team its first World Championship title with Mark Rakita, Vladimir Naslymow, Umar Mawlichanow and Boris Melnikov. The following year, Vinokourov first participated in the Olympics and won with the team in Mexico City, the gold medal belonged to him Rakita, Naslymow, Mawlichanow and Viktor Sidjak to Equipe. In the same occupation, the Soviet team at the World Championship in 1969 won the title. 1970 and 1971 could Naslymow, Rakita, Sidjak and Vinokourov together with Sergei Prihogyko defend the title.

Since 1967, the Soviet team had now won every major title until the final of the 1972 Olympics was subject to the team the Italians, who had each won in 1964 and 1968, the silver medal. Even in the World Cup 1973, the Soviet team won the silver medal, this time the team defeated the Hungarians. In the team was in 1973 with Victor Krowopuskow a fencer, which developed in the coming years for outstanding saber fencer. Krowopuskow, Naslymow, Sidjak and Vinokourov won the team title at the world championships in 1974 and 1975. At the end of his career in 1976 Vinokourov won in Montreal together with Mikhail Burtsev, Krowopuskow, Naslymow and Sidjak again at the Olympics, were once again in the finals, the Italians opponents; Vinokourov was like in 1968 to win two battles against the Italians.

2007 Eduard Vinokurov was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
